The Yorkshire HR Awards are designed to showcase and celebrate HR talent across the region. We have a range of categories which recognise individuals, teams and companies. It’s completely FREE to nominate and you can submit in multiple categories.
The relevant period for work for the 2026 awards is from July 2025 – July 2026. Following the written submission those who are successfully selected to continue in the process will be invited to attend a judging day taking place at the Clarion offices in Leeds city centre on Tuesday 8th September 2026.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
Apprentice of the Year
Eligibility: Recognising apprentices who have demonstrated outstanding commitment, performance, and growth within their organisation. This Award celebrates individuals who have shown exceptional promise, contributed positively to their team or wider business, and embraced learning opportunities to develop their skills and career potential.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Examples of high performance and meaningful contributions that have positively impacted the team, department, or organisation.
- Demonstrated commitment to learning, including proactive engagement with their apprenticeship programme and willingness to develop new skills.
- Instances where the apprentice has taken initiative, solved problems, or shown creativity in their role.
- Positive feedback from colleagues, managers, or customers that highlights professionalism, work ethic, and reliability.
- Evidence of personal growth, increased confidence, or progression resulting from the apprenticeship experience.
- Effective collaboration within the team and emerging behaviours that demonstrate long‑term career potential.
Rising Talent in HR
Eligibility: This Award is open to HR professionals who have been in the profession for 5 years or less and can demonstrate rapid progress and achievement in this time. The Award recognises career potential, their contributions to the organisation, and their innovative practices in the field of Human Resources.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Specific examples highlighting the nominee’s recent achievements that have directly benefited the workforce or the company.
- Examples of the implementation of new initiatives that have positively impacted their organisation.
- Exceptional customer service, ensuring a high level of satisfaction, and exceeding staff and/or managers’ expectations.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a keen willingness to acquire new skills.
- Commitment to the role and an enthusiastic attitude towards the profession.
- Effective collaboration within the team and examples of emerging leadership skills.
People Leader of the Year
Eligibility: Recognising visionary people leaders who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and have been instrumental in driving innovative and forward-thinking HR strategies within their organisations. Should have at least 10 years working in HR.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities, with a clear track record of influencing culture, performance, and organisational outcomes.
- Has implemented innovative or forward‑thinking HR strategies or practices that have delivered meaningful and positive organisational impact.
- Has achieved measurable improvements in key areas such as employee engagement, talent management, diversity, equity, and inclusion, organisational culture, or workforce effectiveness.
- Consistently role‑models behaviours that inspire trust, collaboration, and high performance across teams and the wider organisation.
- Demonstrates strategic thinking and the ability to navigate complex people challenges with creativity, empathy, and accountability.
COMPANY AWARDS
Team of the Year – Private sector (under 250 employees)
Eligibility: This Award is open to HR teams working within small and medium sized enterprises with under 250 employees. It recognises teams that have delivered exceptional results across multiple areas of HR in a way that aligns with organisational values, supports business priorities, and demonstrates the distinct impact an effective people function can have within an SME environment.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- The team’s work should have a significant, positive impact on the organisation. This could be measured in terms of improved processes, cost savings, or other key performance indicators.
- Demonstrating exceptional teamwork, which includes effective communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among team members.
- Applying innovative approaches to address key business issues or multiple projects as part of the people strategy.
- Contributing to the overall success of the organisation, demonstrated by measurements such as improved employee satisfaction, reduced turnover, or increased productivity.
- Explaining how the team’s initiatives helped to develop or transform the organisation’s business and people strategies.
- Promoting continuous learning and professional development within the organisation, demonstrating how this has resulted in opportunities for advancement and greater job satisfaction.
Team of the Year - Public or Third Sector
Eligibility: This Award is open to HR teams working in the public and third sectors. It recognises the team’s achievements across multiple facets of HR that aligns with the organisation’s values and goals.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- The team’s work should have a significant, positive impact on the organisation. This could be measured in terms of improved processes, cost savings, or other key performance indicators.•
- Demonstrating exceptional teamwork, which includes effective communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among team members.
- Applying innovative approaches to address key business issues or multiple projects as part of the people strategy.
- Contributing to the overall success of the organisation, demonstrated by measurements such as improved employee satisfaction, reduced turnover, or increased productivity.
- Explaining how the team’s initiatives helped to develop or transform the organisation’s business and people strategies.
- Promoting continuous learning and professional development within the organisation, demonstrating how this has resulted in opportunities for advancement and greater job satisfaction.
Best Reward & Recognition Initiative
Eligibility: Recognising organisations that have implemented impactful reward and recognition strategies that support employee engagement and wellbeing, reinforce organisational values, and contribute to a positive workplace culture. This Award celebrates initiatives that meaningfully acknowledge employee contributions, enhance motivation, and drive improvements in retention, performance, and overall employee experience.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Clear reward and recognition strategies that align with organisational values, culture, and business strategy and priorities.
- Demonstrated impact of reward and recognition initiatives on employee engagement, wellbeing, morale, and performance.
- Innovative and inclusive approaches that ensure recognition is meaningful, accessible, and equitable across the workforce.
- Evidence of measurable outcomes such as improved retention, enhanced productivity, or strengthened organisational culture.
- Effective communication and implementation of reward and recognition programmes across the organisation.
- Initiatives that promote a culture of appreciation, encouraging senior leaders, managers, and colleagues to acknowledge contributions consistently and authentically through a variety of reward mechanisms.
Excellence in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Eligibility: Recognising organisations that have made clear improvements in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful organisations will demonstrate the impact this work has had on their business, which may include organisational results, colleague and customer experience, and community connections.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Implemented creative and forward-thinking approaches to integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) throughout their organisation, with measurable results which may include colleagues, customers, community, and the organisation itself.
- Leveraged DEI as a lever for workplace culture transformation, with evidence of its impact on representation, talent practices such as hiring, performance management and promotion, and the employee experience of inclusion and belonging.
- Collected, analysed, and utilised data to inform DEI strategy, action planning, and decision making, with evidence of the resulting organisational outcomes.
Excellence in Wellbeing
Eligibility: Celebrating organisations that have implemented comprehensive programs and initiatives that prioritise and promote employee wellbeing (whether that be physical, financial, emotional or other) such as awareness campaigns and proactive support to address specific health needs.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Having clear policies and practices in place and a culture that support wellbeing. In the case of mental health, this includes promoting work-life balance, encouraging open conversations about mental health, and reducing stigma around mental health issues.
- Providing training and education such as how to support colleagues with health issues.
- Encouraging employees to engage in healthy activities that are personally meaningful and increase employee engagement.
- Maintaining sustainable programmes that encourage and engage ongoing employee involvement.
Purpose Beyond Profit
Eligibility: Recognising organisations that excel in fostering a sense of purpose among their employees. This Award celebrates companies that not only articulate their mission and values but also translate them into meaningful work. The Award underscores the importance of employee satisfaction, productivity, and performance as key indicators of successful HR practices.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Having a clear, well-articulated purpose that goes beyond profit, and this purpose should be integrated into all aspects of the business.
- Innovating in approaches to addressing social or environmental issues and demonstrating a commitment to sustainability in its operations.
- Being transparent about its impact and holding itself accountable to stakeholders, such as including regular impact reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Articulating how these practices have led to improved productivity levels and/or strong performance outcomes.
- Demonstrating how innovative people-practices have been implemented to promote and create a stronger sense of purpose.
Team of the Year - Private Sector (over 250 employees)
Eligibility: This Award is open to HR teams working in the private sector with over 250 employees. It recognises the team’s achievements across multiple facets of HR that aligns with the company’s values and goals.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- The team’s work should have a significant, positive impact on the organisation. This could be measured in terms of improved processes, cost savings, or other key performance indicators.
- Demonstrating exceptional teamwork, which includes effective communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among team members.
- Applying innovative approaches to address key business issues or multiple projects as part of the people strategy.
- Contributing to the overall success of the organisation, demonstrated by measurements such as improved employee satisfaction, reduced turnover, or increased productivity.
- Explaining how the team’s initiatives helped to develop or transform the organisation’s business and people strategies.
- Promoting continuous learning and professional development within the organisation, demonstrating how this has resulted in opportunities for advancement and greater job satisfaction.
Best Talent Acquisition & Employer Brand Initiative
Eligibility: Recognising organisations that have delivered a clearly defined Talent Acquisition or Employer Brand initiative that has measurably improved hiring outcomes. Entries should show how the initiative addressed a specific challenge, strengthened the fundamentals, and delivered meaningful, sustainable impact.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- A clear description of the problem, opportunity, or gap the initiative aimed to solve.
- Evidence of strong execution and alignment to core TA fundamentals (e.g., process clarity, candidate experience, hiring manager engagement).
- Measurable improvements – such as stronger pipelines, higher-quality hires, improved conversion, better candidate feedback, or reduced time or cost.
- Demonstrated contribution to inclusion and accessibility.
- Clear outcomes that can be linked to the initiative, not general TA activity.
Excellence in Learning & Development
.Eligibility: Focusing on the organisation’s efforts to enhance employee skills, foster a learning culture, and drive outcomes through effective learning and development (L&D) strategies.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Fostering a culture of continuous learning and talent development.
- Implemented innovative L&D strategies or skills and career development practices that have positively impacted the organisation.
- Implementing L&D initiatives that align with the organisation’s strategy and people strategies.
- L&D initiatives have led to measurable improvements in areas such as employee performance, engagement, retention, career efficacy, etc.
- L&D initiatives support efforts to improve diversity and foster equity and inclusion.
- Implementing programmes to encourage the development of those in the earlier years of their careers including apprenticeship schemes.
- Evidence of the personal impact for colleagues’ growth and personal or professional development.
Excellence in Transformational Change through Technology
Eligibility: Recognising organisations that have delivered significant transformational change through the effective use of digital solutions and technology. This Award celebrates initiatives that have delivered measurable business benefits through the thoughtful adoption, integration, or optimisation of technology aligned to strategic objectives, enhancing organisational capability, improved ways of working, employability, etc.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Clear identification of the business challenge or strategic need that led to the implementation of the technology initiative.
- Demonstrated use of digital tools, systems, or platforms to drive meaningful and sustainable organisational change.
- Evidence of improved efficiency, effectiveness, or employee experience resulting directly from the technology initiative.
- Measurable outcomes such as increased productivity, reduced costs, enhanced service delivery, or improved decision‑making.
- Strong collaboration across teams, stakeholders, or partners to support implementation, adoption, and long‑term success.
- Demonstrated contribution to future‑focused transformation, digital capability building, or improved organisational agility.
Excellence in Transformational Change through Organisational Development
Eligibility: Recognising organisations that have delivered impactful transformational change through effective organisational development (OD). This Award celebrates initiatives that have strengthened organisational capability and resilience, enhanced culture, and driven measurable improvements in performance through structured OD approaches aligned to strategic goals.
Judges will require evidence of the following:
- Clear articulation of the organisational challenge or strategic need that prompted the OD initiative.
- Demonstrated use of OD methodologies, tools, or frameworks to design and deliver sustainable change.
- Evidence of improved organisational effectiveness, culture, or ways of working as a direct result of the initiative.
- Measurable outcomes such as increased engagement, improved performance, or enhanced organisational agility or resilience.
- Strong collaboration across teams and leadership to enable adoption and embed change.
- Demonstrated contribution to long term organisational development, capability building, or future focused transformation
- Evidence of colleague engagement and advocacy for the change.
